October 13 morning briefing: the record after Monday’s hearing

430trees.com launches with a sourced timeline of the October 10 cutting, the February lawsuit, and Judge Reyes's Monday order halting all tree removal at East Potomac Golf Links.

Record checked October 13, 2026, morning ET. This is a dated briefing, not a live court-status indicator. Judge Ana C. Reyes’s order stopping all tree removal at East Potomac Golf Links — “routine maintenance” included — runs until at least 2 p.m. ET today, Tuesday, October 13. She said Monday she wants testimony from an Interior Department official who could not be reached during the hearing, and that she will require three days’ notice before any further action at the course.

The numbers, as stated in court. Government lawyers put the weekend count at about 430 trees cut, with roughly 299 more still targeted. Plaintiffs say they were told 529 were destroyed, including healthy, mature oaks and maples. The National Park Service superintendent acknowledged the trees had not been identified as hazardous.

The notice. The government’s filing landed at 4:55 p.m. on Friday, October 9 — the start of a federal holiday weekend — and said 169 trees would be removed Saturday, with 90 more later. The judge called the timing “thoroughly unamus[ing]” and said it had “cost the government all of its credibility.”

What we will do here. Every day the case is live, this page gets an entry: what was filed, what was said, what changed on the ground. Everything links to a source. If we get something wrong, the correction is posted here, not quietly edited.

The next reported deadline is 2 p.m. ET October 13. Later orders must be checked against the docket.
